A glittering entrance to the Mardi Gras season, the Twelfth Night celebration draws thousands to see the grand promenade of this past year's kings, queens, and captains of over 50 krewes. The Twelfth Night tradition parallels the three kings' entry at the ancient nativity twelve days after Jesus' birth. The 2011 royal courts will wave goodbye to all in preparation for the 2012 courts, which will be in full display during the Royal Gala In the spirit of gift-bearing, everyone present at the Southwest Louisiana celebration is given a piece of king cake, and 12 grand prizes are given to visitors who find a surprise in the cake. Luxurious door prizes will be given out and afterwards there will be music and dancing. Krewe Members and Family
The Cocktail Party will again be at Treasures of Marilyn's on 5th Ave. Band will be Backyard Cowboys. Cash bar and photographer available. Black tie optional. Krewe Members
Please come join in the fun and help decorate for the Ball this Friday night. Krewe du Lac merchandise will be available for purchase. PLEASE NOTE that all children MUST BE SUPERVISED at all times Friday night! Krewe Members
Band will be No Idea. Doors will open at 7:00 pm and close promptly at 8:00 for the duration of the Court Presentation. The Krewe pays a food fee so the members are welcome to bring in their own food, but a corkage fee for all alcohol brought in MUST be paid and all the bottles stamped. The Civic Center is very strict about this and fines can be assessed for liquor which is "sneaked" in under costumes. Wrapped gifts will be opened to check for alcohol. A copy of the Civic Center's Alcohol Regulations and rules regarding ice and gift wrapping can be found HERE. If you'd prefer to buy liquor by the bottle from the CC and skip paying corkage fees, here is the latest price list. Police officers will be checking alcohol and wristbands before allowing anyone entrance into the Ball. A cash bar and photographer will be available. Krewe Members and Guests
Merchants’ Parade - Friday, February 17, 7 p.m.
Local business leaders and social organizations will take to the streets on festive floats, throwing thousands of beads, doubloons and other assorted goodies. Although not an official Krewe function, the Merchant's Parade is a fun parade for the whole family. If you're looking for a good place to watch it, why don't you come join a big bunch of our Krewe buddies at Cooler's Ice House. If you get there early, you can back your pickup or SUV near the street to sit in back with the kids or bring lawn chairs to set up next to the sidewalk. The adults can socialize in the warmth and smoke free atmosphere of Coolers and then go out to the street when the parade gets there. Another benefit of Coolers is that they have clean rest rooms!

I guarantee this is the best $5 you will ever spend to get in and sample gumbo to your heart's delight and listen to some rocking Cajun music that comes along with it. Gumbo judging begins at noon and right after that, gumbo will be served to the public. Admission is $5, and children 5 and under are admitted free.

It's a beautiful salute to our waterways and love of water sports and a perfect topper to a Sunday of celebration. Krewe du Lac's new Court will be Going Wild again, riding on one of the bigger boats in the parade and throwing beads to the people on shore, so bring the kids out to the Seawall and join in the fun.
